Well, as you may have guessed, I
love playing drums, and I love cymbals. When I started out on the drum
set, I did, what most beginning drummers do, and bought a mix of the usual "- (dj)ians" - not a starter set, but a B20 ride, hats,
crashes- and they served me just fine. When I hit my first Handmade
Turkish Cymbal a few years later, Everything Changed: the complex symphony of sounds they produced blew me away. Istanbul Mehmet and
other Turkish cymbals are obviously works of art- sonically and
visually. Why drummers would buy mass-and machine-produced cymbals from
the "Mac-(dj)ians" at often higher prices, remains a complete mystery
to me. Not that one cannot make and record great music with them, but imho the experience from behind the kit pales in comparison. It's
much like playing your first high-quality snare drum, after you've
ditched the one that came with your first drum set. There is no going
back.
You notice, I have not included a certain big Swiss manufacturer of
cymbals in my rant here. Anybody who can make B8 bronze sound that
good, deserves at least honorable mention (and I do have an older ride
and hats of theirs in my own collection).
Anyway, the opportunity to become an authorized dealer for IM presented
itself, and I gladly took it. I am not interested in becoming a large
scale retailer of cymbals (I do have a day job), but in bringing a
product I truly enjoy and believe in to my fellow drummers at the best
prices I can manage.
Rock, swing, be-bop, hip-hop, shuffle, groove on !
